The Center for Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders, created in 1988, has been recognized by the Regional Authority of Liguria also as a referral center for the diagnosis and treatment of Huntington’s and other rare diseases (dystonia and atypical parkinsonism).
There are five outpatient clinics per week dedicated to patients with movement disorders for new and follow-up visits (about 80 visits per month). Hospitalization of patients with movement disorders is possible in the Neurology ward for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.
The Center provides training in the field of movement disorders to medical students, students of biomedical disciplines, residents, physiotherapists and other professionals.
Research work, which has been developed in collaboration with Italian and international centers, is focused on the pathophysiology of movement disorders and the effects of neurorehabilitation.
